It
is the fantasy of our children alone that breathes life into the seemingly
stiff wooden figures, the form and color of which purposely have been
reduced to an essential minimum. Its apparent how little coaching
our children need to dive into their worlds. Ostheimer artisans go
to great lengths in shaping and crafting each individual figure so
as to preserve this fantasy world and thereby to give children the
ability to draw on their creativity during play.
In a visionary way and based on her studies of both progressive Waldorf
education and spiritual anthroposophic ideas, Margarete Ostheimer
began to create a collection of toys which today more than ever are
justified and necessary.
The collection was established forty years ago as an alternative to
a "plastic world" and is today a necessary counterbalance
to the "high-tech world" of the playroom. An increase in
loneliness and a lack of social values already bear witness to the
consequences of a one-sided, intellectual upbringing. Today, it is
generally accepted by professional people and indeed by the highest
echelons of management, that it is not just specialized knowledge,
but also flexibility and creativity that are vitally important. The
days in which "a good final grade" was more important than
"a wealth of ideas" have long since past.
Ostheimer has established itself as the premiere toy maker for wooden
figurines in the tradition and concepts of Waldorf pedagogy. Welcome
these artisan toys into your home. "Develop creative forces in
play!" |
